Corn!

We have corn coming out of our ears! {pun intended}

In the past couple weeks, Dave and I spent about 2- 2 hour sessions putting up corn for the winter.

IMG_2974 We got lucky and got our first batch already shucked from his parents the day we got back from vacation, cooked it up, bagged it up, and froze it.  (Mika likes corn too!)

The other night we got 6 dozen more from the Furleigh farm and took care of that too.

Now we have a total of 42 bags of corn for the winter time! Looks like we’ll be sharing!

Garden vegetables

the inside is bare because Mika rolled around and killed off a bunch of Kale plants…just a few survived!  The asparagus is huge and should definitely be moved somewhere else.  Planted this year:  asparagus (more plants added), celery, broccoli, kale, spinach, onions,lettuce, and herbs on the side (basil, purple basil, parsely, sage, and rosemary). Also planted 2 tomato plants in pots, the cherry tomatoes are producing, the other tomatoes are rotten on the bottom again! (A lady at the farmers market tells me this is d/t a calcium deficiency..cure: save old egg shells, blend them up and add them to the bottom of the pot before potting. Will try next year!)

The  bounty from today. I am surprised at how much lettuce my garden has produced this year. It seems to just keep coming..not complaining! Everyday there are a few cherry tomatoes that are ready and they taste so good! The broccoli has done very well too. Definitely miss our peppers but plan to get some from the Furleigh farm soon.

Plan to have a big garden next year at the nursery!

Plans to plant next year:

Lettuce, kale, spinach, broccoli, cabbage?, carrots, onions, tomatoes (cherry for sure), peppers (hot, sweet, and bell), zucchini/summer squash, cucumbers, and herbs (basil, sage, rosemary, parsley, cilantro?)   strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries
